The spirit of love is in the air, and what better way to celebrate today than with a recipe for a very romantic drink – the Cosmopolitan.
Back in the 1990’s, it wasn’t uncommon to hear many women (and some men) ordering cosmos. The drink gained a huge amount of popularity from HBO’s hit series Sex in the City and has been associated with eligible bachelorettes ever since. Alongside the Margarita it’s pretty much -the- lady’s drink.
The drink itself was first recognized as it is today in 1987, but it’s origins are generally thought to have been around the 1970’s in different variations. There are far too many conflicting stories as to the origin of the drink, but we don’t particularly care. What matters is the drink is here now and we’re going to show you how to make one!
It’s dead simple and quite delicious, but gentlemen – just a word of advice; If you ever want to keep your reputation as a man in check, don’t ever, ever order one of these in public.
A Cosmopolitan
1 1/2 parts vodka
1/2 part triple sec (we prefer Cointreau)
1/2 part fresh lime juice
3/4 part cranberry juice (we prefer R.W. Knudsen Family)
Combine the vodka, triple sec, lime juice and raspberry juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to mix. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a twist of lemon, lime wedge, or a flamed orange peel.
Happy Valentines from everyone here at Vodka Valley! Remember, don’t drink and drive. It’s a lousy way to end a date.
